Maybe I need to discharge some capacitor to get empty memory? I actually have the same problem as starckrider. I'm unable to do firmware update after changing the dashboard. Any help please? I was able to follow his directions and complete a hardware swap by doing the update. It did take a few tries to get the timing down but I'm fairly certain that if I can get my hands on another one at auction I could do this again by following his steps.
I replaced my ES2 mother board with board from Ninebot and I get error I tried the trick described here to pair it via bluetooth as soon as it turns on but it didnt work.
I unplugged the mother board from the batttery and tried it again and again but still not working. Any help would be greatly appriciated!! Error code should go away and you are on your way. I spoke to Ninebot repair and they confirmed thats a "temp" fix in that they want you to send in your board to initilize it for a fee of 65 dollars.
I did have difficulty with the timing on getting the one without lights to get pass the 35 error. So I swapped temporarily the controller and was able to get the battery Bms updated and then swapped the controller back and got the controller updated and finally all were working fine.
I think the one with lights seemed to be easy to convert. Extra battery pack did not make a difference.
Segway miniPRO Teardown
I always ordered from China and get the part from there. I got a new board but I can't get it to work. It doesn't give error but I can't even charge the battery or change anything expect the Bluetooth name.
Setting in the Segway app doesn't open with error "wnumber is null". No matter how many times I reconnect battery and turn on the scooter while the app is scanning. It never asks to update anything. I can't change serial too. It says not allowed because no factory number. Changing the name via bluetooth has nothing to do with the controller or battery, that is just the bluetooth chip inside the the dashboard nor can you change the serial number.
To confirm controller is even working you will need to disconnect the cables that come from the controller and connect to the wheel or lights below. But the board still has a issue and you will need to really examine the board for a failed component most people don't have the tools for this and must replace the board.
The extended battery connection is not even scene. You really don't need all the aluminium housing, you just need to board inside.
Sure if your know your circuits and can decipher the components that are bad. You would need several tools to and schematic would really be helpful. But having said all that, there is no known schematic on the public servers so you would have to do a step by step diagnost of each component.

Absolutely nothing stopping you doing whatever you like with what you own - and by the same token absolutely nothing forcing Ninebot to sell you spare parts either. I hope you got it REAL cheap, as it might have been an idea to investigate the spare parts situation first? Your welcome, if I remember correctly, there were too many people having problems trying to change serial numbers to the new boards and Ninebot quit selling them, instead forcing owners to use authorized repair centers.
From what I have seen, the Bird rideshare scooter is probably the ES1, and they are flooding major metropolitan areas like parts of Los Angeles and other cities. Out of stock at NinebotUS, but due to sheer numbers, there are bound to be motherboards out there. Closed today but there is a phone number in the link I gave you. That reminds me, I wonder who does the maintenance on these thousands of ride share scooters? I read an article that people are paid to take them home and charge them at night, but nothing was mentioned about repairs.

Thank you. I get the impression that Ninebot is trying to prevent imitation products from being used. There was a thread about battery packs for the Minis that fit perfectly but they couldn't communicate with the motherboard like a genuine Ninebot battery, so the speed was limited to very slow speed.
I think it is a liability issue. I'm running into the exact same problem, I needed to change the motherboard and I'm running into an error code If you replaced the dashboard with a new one, you must do this process with it apart not in the tube. The bluetooth has to communicate to the controller board and they all must have same versions of software on the EEPROM to communicate correctly.
I also have an error 35 after replacing the control board with one bought off of eBay. It seems Segway-Ninebot is trying to curtail the ability to do at home repairs. Anybody have a solution for activating a new control board correctly yourself? This sounds like you got a Lime controller board and not an actual Segway Ninebot controller board.

What do I do?A while back, we tore down the now infamous hoverboardwith the intention of uncovering how the product was made so cheaply and easily by manufacturers large and small in China. For this teardown, we decided to go to the opposite end of the spectrum and see what changes when an experienced industry leader designs and manufactures a similar product.
In all honesty, I had a hard time tearing this one down. Once you step onto the miniPRO, it only take a few short rides to get fully acclimated, unlike the hoverboard, where even an experienced rider constantly risks losing balance or badly stubbing a toe. The stability is much better; the larger tires help tackle city terrain; and the center arm allows for much improved steering control with your legs. Ninebot obviously gave a lot of thought to the end user, and it immediately shows in the riding experience.
To start the teardown, I removed the center steering arm from the body, which was held on by a quick release clamp and tensioned by a couple of screws. This is great for storage or transportation. This connection point combines a guide rail to ensure the arm reattaches correctly and ribbing for added strength.
These were made with a rigid plastic core for structural strength, encapsulated by a polyurethane foam that gives it a smooth and cushioned finish.
Ninebot Repair Service
The manufacturing process is similar to insert molding or overmolding: The rigid plastic has been injection molded separately, and then it gets inserted into another mold, where the polyurethane foam comes in. The polyurethane goes through a chemical reaction and expands around the rigid core.
This process is called R. Reaction Injection Molding. Moving to the body of the miniPRO, I started by removing that ribbed connector that attaches to the arm. Internally, the rotation of the steel knob is measured by a Hall effect sensor that translates the change in electromagnetic field into a voltage output. The mechanism to make it all work is quite ingenious. Removing the steering arm makes the product much easier to flip over and access the screws on the bottom side.
Removing the screws was no walk in the park—they were secured with plenty of loctite, which prevents vibration loosening. After finally getting the screws off, I removed the battery and found a gasket that sealed all the internal electronics from dust and water, which was a major flaw in the design of the hoverboard.
